What does PSHE look like at ARA?
How do we deliver PSHE at Acre Rigg Academy?
All pupils have a weekly PSHE lesson which lasts for 1 hour. Planning is given to all staff which has been developed by PSHE lead in guidance with The PSHE Association to meet the needs of our pupils. Acre Rigg Academy uses a personalised programme based on guidance from the PSHE Association to deliver discrete PSHE lessons. Each year group covers the same unit at the same time which allows for a whole school approach. Units are organised by term and show progression through the learning. Details of the units and topics can be found on the long-term overview. Staff have attended 'Philosophy for Children' (P4C) training and strategies and techniques are being implemented across school. P4C builds higher order thinking, questioning, speaking and listening skills and these are incorporated into the PSHE curriculum. Visitors such as emergency services and the school nurse complement our PSHE curriculum to offer additional learning and assemblies are planned to cover any additional sessions that would benefit the whole school.
