Acre Rigg Academy believes that the learning of a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for the pupils. Pupils develop communication and literacy skills that lay the foundation for future language learning. We teach Spanish across all year groups.
Years 3 & 4
Spanish lessons are taught by class teachers in lower school. These lessons take place on a two weekly rotation and focus on learning new vocabulary, conversational skills and writing in Spanish. Teachers have access to our Spanish specialist’s planning for their year group as well as any resources they may need. Teachers also use an online subscription to ‘Linguascope’ to aid in the teaching of new vocabulary and pronunciation.
Year 5 & 6
Spanish lessons are taught by a native Spanish speaking language specialist in upper school. These lessons take place on a two weekly rotation and focus on learning new vocabulary, conversational skills and writing in Spanish. The specialist teacher plans, delivers and assesses the learning. At the end of the academic year, the specialist also produces a report for parents.
