Our Nurture Provision
At Acre Rigg Academy, we understand that learning can happen in all forms, not just academically. We have worked closely with Durham County Council to develop our Nurture Provision which can provide up to 12 pupils with sessions that can help them progress in areas such as social skills, emotional literacy, confidence and self-esteem.
Our Nurture Provision is ran by Mrs Longstaff and Miss Bowley, who have both received training from professionals from Durham County Council. If your child is identified as benefitting from Nurture sessions, they will receive 2-3 Nurture sessions each week within our Nurture Classroom. The sessions will take place on an afternoon. Nurture sessions have the greatest impact when they take place over a prolonged period. Durham County's Nurture model recommends 2 terms. We monitor the effectiveness of our Nurture provision closely through the completion of specialist assessments to measure non-academic progress in a number of areas. All sessions are carefully planned around themed picture books to ensure a wide range of themes can be covered.
