Our principal aim is to develop the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding in art and design. We ensure that the act of investigating and making something includes exploring and developing ideas, and evaluating and developing work. We do this best through a mixture of whole-class teaching and individual or group activities.
The Art and Design Curriculum at Acre Rigg Academy is based on the National Curriculum ensuring the teaching of a broad range of skills. Art is planned on a termly basis, allowing all aspects of the art curriculum to be covered in all year groups from Year 3 to Year 6. This also allows for revisiting and building on skills from previous years. Throughout the year, we aim to give children the opportunity to work on their own, collaborate with others, work in two and three dimensions and on a range of different scales. Children also have the opportunity to use a wide range of materials and resources, including ICT.
