Maths

In Year 3, we have a daily Maths lesson using the Power Maths scheme. We split into three sets which allows us to work at our own pace and be well supported and challenged. Mrs Sullivan works with small groups of children on specific learning that is identified by the teacher. Some children still have learning to cover from Years 1 and 2, so we prioritise this before moving on to the Year 3 curriculum.

Times Tables

Times tables are really important in Maths as it helps us to make sense of so many more concepts. In Year 3, we aim to learn our 2s, 5s and 10s first and then move on to our 3s, 4s and 8s. Children in Year 4 are expected to know all of their tables up to 12x12 by the end of the year, so the more we can learn in Year 3, the better!

We practise our tables lots at school but practising at home will also help. All children have a log in to Times Table Rockstars which they should play on regularly.

Homework

Children in Miss Hind or Miss Keillor's sets will be set weekly homework on Maths Flex. Tasks given will link to what has been covered in class. We would encourage children to have a pencil and paper available to make jottings to support their thinking. Tasks will be assigned on a Friday and children have until the following Friday to work on these.

Children in Mrs Cooper's set will be given paper based homework tasks to consolidate learning that has taken place in class.
