Autumn Reading

Our Autumn Novel is The Firework Maker's Daughter by Philip Pullman.

What Lila wants to be more than anything else in the world is . . . a Firework-Maker!

But firework-making is not just about being able to make Crackle-Dragons and Golden Sneezes. There is also one special secret: every Firework-Maker must make a perilous journey to face the terrifying Fire-Fiend!

Not knowing that she needs special protection to survive the Fire-Fiend's flames, Lila sets off alone. Her friends, Chulak and Hamlet - the King's white elephant - race after her. But can they possibly reach her in time?

Spring Reading

Our Spring Novel is Mr Popper's Penguins by Florence and Richard Atwater.

The lovable Mr. Popper dreams of being an intrepid Antarctic explorer, living life among the penguins alongside his hero, Admiral Drake. So he is shocked one day when the admiral responds to his fan letter by sending him a real, live penguin! Soon, this penguin is joined by another and before long Mr. Popper has an ice-rink in the basement and a dozen delightful penguins living in his house. With barely enough money to feed his family and an increasing demand for raw fish and canned shrimp, what can the wonderfully imaginative Mr. Popper do but train his penguins and then take the show on the road!

Writing

We split into three classes for our writing. Some children go to Mrs Walker and Mrs Adamson to work on the Read, Write, Inc programme. Click the links below to see what we cover in writing in Year 4.

We aim to follow the Year 4 programmes of study and learn Year 4 spellings. However, if there are gaps in our learning, the teacher will teach objectives from Year 3 before we move on.
